Al ser un circuito de karts, obviamente aprovechamos al máximo las instalaciones y el propio circuito, hasta el punto de celebrar una serie de carreras de trofeos. Nada que ver con el overlanding, por supuesto, ¡pero divertidísimo!
Fue un éxito inmediato (incluso nos quedamos sin aparcamiento para visitantes de día). Era evidente que se necesitaba un espacio mucho más grande. Se inició la búsqueda de un lugar céntrico con capacidad para más de 1000 unidades de acampada.
Once meses después, en septiembre de 2013, se celebró la segunda edición del ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW, esta vez en el prestigioso y nuevo escenario del hipódromo de Stratford-upon-Avon, en Warwickshire. Duplicando la cantidad de comerciantes, campistas y visitantes, también se contó con una mayor variedad, con la asistencia de camiones de expedición (de 7,5 toneladas o más) y algunas motocicletas de aventura.
Otro gran éxito, ¡estaba claro que ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW había encontrado el lugar perfecto!
As the show steadily grew in stature with 4×4 manufacturers such as Land Rover and Toyota participating, the next milestone came in 2018 when it was decided to feature 2WD vehicles too, but how? It was clear the 4WD community loved the ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW the way it was, so understandably were reluctant to change. Yet with so many 2WD owners asking if they could attend, and our philosophy of encouraging everybody to attend regardless of their means of transport, there had to be a way of integrating a whole new community to the event.
Easy, the INTERNATIONAL CAMPERVAN SHOW was born! With the creation of a brand new entertainment area entitled Tom Dibb’s “Campervan Live Lounge” area featuring chill-out music and licensed bar, their own trade stands, seminars and display vehicles area, not only could the two communities co-exist, the diverse blend made the entire event even more interesting for the event’s visitors.
As part of the diversity, ‘Adventure Bikes’ too would have their own area, thereafter to be called the “Adventure Bike Zone” – yes, a lot of thought went into that one!!! – again with manufacturers such as CCM Motorcycles providing demo rides and traders specialising in motorcycle tours, accessories and equipment.
With the expansion of the event came a problem, albeit a nice problem. A show in September was fine as ‘the last major event of the season’, great to plan and buy gear for winter projects, but traders and visitors alike wanted more, thus it was decided to run two shows a year!
Known then and forever more as the ‘Spring’ edition (in April), and the ‘Late Summer’ edition (still in September), the shows have evolved ever since.
Sin embargo, nos topamos con un gran obstáculo en 2020 y 2021, cuando tanto el espectáculo como todo el condado cerraron debido a la pandemia de COVID-19. Siguiendo las restricciones gubernamentales, tuvimos que cancelar tres funciones, así que organizamos una barbacoa virtual y una serie de crucigramas de viajes en redes sociales para distraernos durante esos días oscuros.
Gracias al personal del NHS y a los trabajadores esenciales, salimos prácticamente ilesos. Lamentablemente, no todos corrieron con la misma suerte. Como organizadores, nos dedicamos a ofrecer entretenimiento, ¡y ellos nos dieron esperanza!
Hacia el 2023.
Desafortunadamente, justo en medio de un período de clima hermoso, la Oficina Meteorológica emitió una alerta meteorológica amarilla advirtiendo de grandes tormentas eléctricas durante el fin de semana, con una franja de fuertes lluvias que se extendería desde Bristol hasta Birmingham... con el hipódromo de Stratford-upon-Avon justo en su camino.
It transpired the storms didn’t hit the region until Sunday night, but obviously it would have been irresponsible to press ahead. The risk was too great, so frustratingly we postponed the event to September’s ‘Late Summer’ edition of the show this September.
A juzgar por sus comentarios, la inclusión de CAMPERJUMBLE y LANDYJUMBLE como otro elemento del espectáculo está teniendo mucho éxito, por lo que es casi seguro que se convertirá en una característica habitual de futuros eventos. Por el momento, hemos decidido cambiar la imagen del evento. Ya no se llamará ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW + INTERNATIONAL CAMPERVAN SHOW, sino que el nuevo nombre será:
EXPOSICIÓN DE AVENTURAS POR TIERRA Y AUTOCARAVANAS
Mucho más fácil de recordar, por eso el evento también cuenta con un nuevo logotipo que incorpora todas las atracciones que hacen que el evento sea tan memorable.
